New Committee for 2016

Our new committee was voted in at last night's Annual General Meeting held in the Green Isle Hotel. Kathleen Gill was elected as Chairperson, Pat O'Sullivan as Secretary and Leo O'Callaghan as Treasurer. Tommy Keogh was elected as Vice Chairperson, Agnes O'Neill as Assistant Secretary and Sean Lavin as Assistant Treasurer. Maeve O'Sullivan, Ronan Connolly, Michael Maloney, Rachel Heller, George Smith and Robert Dowds were also elected as committee members.

Outgoing Chairperson Pat O'Sullivan thanked the entire Clondalkin Tidy Towns committee and members for their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm which in many cases has been beyond the call of volunteering. Pat also thanked the local business owners in Clondalkin for their fantastic support especially those who have supported our group financially. Pat also thanked the staff of South Dublin County Council and commented on our professional working relationship.

The positive impact of our work throughout the village is hard to miss. From the 70 barrels of flowers in the village last summer to the regular litter clean ups with local resident groups, Clondalkin Tidy Towns is helping to create a cleaner and greener place to live. Our ongoing aim is to generate awareness, cooperation, inclusion and enthusiasm amongst the people of Clondalkin, both young and old.

We scored 260 points out of a possible 450 in the 2015 national Supervalu Tidy Towns competition and this was recognised by our group being awarded an Endeavour Award for achieving the highest % increase in Dublin in 2015 and the 2nd highest in all of Ireland.

2016 will be a very busy year for us. We have several large projects planned including the development of the Camac River at the Civic Offices, a 1916 Commemorative Garden at Newlands Cross, assisting the Round Tower Heritage Development, holding our annual Clondalkin Village Summer Competition, maintaining Clondalkin Village as a Poster Free Zone and the installation of our flower barrels throughout the village.

We will be back out on our weekly clean up next Saturday morning (6th February) at 10am, meeting in Tuthills carpark. Everyone welcome!!
